I know I’m not the only one. You know when you just get your heart and hopes set on one product and can’t rest until it’s in your clammy hands? Well that’s what happened with this Tatcha spray because I apparently have as much self-control as a five year old left with a box of open sweets. This is one of those hard to get products that makes it infinitely more desirable than even the most beautiful regular product. It’s hard to get, ridiculously expensive (€60 in the end) and has reviews which either dub it the elixir of the gods or a bit of a disappointment. Ah Yav, you should have known better.

In my defense, I’m obsessed, genuinely 100% bona fide obsessed, with getting natural glowing skin but I always like decent coverage with it so it’s a tricky balancing act. That terrible need in me plus the fact the wedding has become my go to excuse in my head to buy every makeup product known to man means I didn’t even have a choice in this, I had to buy the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Spray. Jaclyn Hill loves it, Irish blogger Orla of Makeupovermind loves it and I’m simply too weak-willed to resist because both girls always look amazing.
I hated paying this much for a product and I hated it even more when I finally tried it. I was hoping to hear angels singing and not recognise the glorious sheen off my own skin but all I heard in my head was ‘meh’. A €60 ‘meh’. I don’t know what I was expecting but I guess it was too much in the end. It does give your face a soft glow but my combo of highlighters plus a spritz of All Nighter at the end has a very similar effect. Now all of those add up to more than this costs, but the highlighters will last a few years and All Nighter makes a big difference in the longevity of my makeup. This isn’t bad, it just translates very subtly to my skin and if I overload it I think it highlights unevenness in my skin in a way I’m not crazy on. In short, for very even skin that runs quite dry, it would be lovely but for me I can get a much nicer effect with products I already own. I totally trust the girls who love it so it’s simply a case of it just not suiting me. And frankly, that’s almost a relief as I can’t afford a new habit this expensive anyway.

But as you can see, it wasn’t my only Tatcha purchase. I picked up these Beauty Papers in Space NK as the sole Tatcha product they stock. I did a little research and they were meant to be excellent at absorbing oil without disturbing your makeup. I get oily around my t-zone but my skin doesn’t take kindly to reapply on top of a base late in the day so these were purchased on a wing and a prayer. Well I was due some luck and I found it here, these are great. They absorb oil exceptionally well and leave your skin looking matte and undisturbed. If you rubbed them, it’s like anything else, your base will move, but if you gently press them on your skin it’s only the oil that’s taken away. These are €14.50 which is admittedly a big price for 20 sheets but I save these for when I need them and I never use a full sheet. Eking them out this way means I’ll get longer but any way you look at it, these won’t last as long as you want them to. Still, if a little oily patch drives you mad, these are perfect for the job and can slip into the tiniest of bags with ease. I’ll be keeping a stack of these for the wedding and the entire summer in general because they’re that good, but I promise to try some cheaper alternatives down the road to keep you updated.
So girls, have you ever wanted an expensive product really badly for ages and then was bitterly disappointed when you finally got it?
