I reach an abnormal level of excitement anytime Soap & Glory release a new product from the Sugar Crush range. Genuinely, I adore the smell of Sugar Crush in all its zesty perfection and I’m prone to opening the body butter when I’m in the loo just to sniff it. I love the body butter, the body lotion, good lord I even love the hand gel, although I tend to be more spendthrift when it comes to the body wash and scrub when money is tight. Anyway, long story short, my love for all things Sugar Crush hit new highs when I was surprise attacked by the postman bearing the gift of the new Shower Jelly collection which comes in two scents, Clean on Me and (you guessed it) Sugar Crush.
Right, so the premise here is that you’re getting a jiggle load of green or pink jelly that will magically turn into a creamy lather once you mix it with water and give yourself a good scrub with it. At €8, I’ll admit this is above what I’d normally spend on shower gel. There are things I’ll quite happily spend sinful amounts of money on (foundations, powders, palettes) and then other products that inspire a new reformed me that becomes all careful with money. So I tend to be the girl who buys Original Source on sale in Boots or to be honest, will grab anything that looks decent and cheap because I know I’ll have a nice layer of body moisturiser and perfume to enjoy long after a sub-par body wash has been rinsed off and forgotten. So in short, I normally wouldn’t drop €8 on a wash I know I’ll go through quite fast. Luckily for me, my mam had treated me to the regular Clean on Me body wash the month before so it was still in the shower so I could pitch one formula against the other. While both are expensive, the regular Clean on Me is €9 and the Sugar Crush shower gel is €9.50, with both giving you 500ml of product, while the jelly in each scent is €8 for 250ml. So while either price is a little too much for me, the regular creamy wash is clearly the one to plump for in terms of value for money.
Setting that aside, the jellies each smell great and the cute packaging and coloured gel is fun and summery. I’ve been using both and they’re very nice products to use and lather up decently enough, although for some reason I’m far more likely to lose half the gel before I actually get it anywhere near me as it’s a little slippy. Scent wise, both in the range are spot on and each smell fantastic (as you would expect) and leave your skin feeling soft and clean as a whistle. This all boils down to price for me even though I think they’re a really fun and summery addition to the S&G range. For the amount of product you get, I just feel they’re too highly priced against the regular creamy washes and while it probably won’t stop girls buying them once or twice, I feel in the long run people will turn to the better value but equal loveliness of the creamy washes. So in short, these are gorgeous to look at and gorgeous to use and you will really like them if you stick them in your basket in Boots, but I just feel the price is a little too high for the amount of product you’re getting and to be honest, I think the regular creamy washes are slightly superior anyway.
These should be out any day now but they’re not on the Boots site just yet!
So girls would you stick these in your basket the next time you’re in Boots?
