Meet your next lipstick. Oh yes, I’m that confident you’re going to like these. I’m all for pricey lipsticks in their weighted, shiny packaging that feel like silky magic on the lips and warrant their own little bag with a bow on top but good god, give me something budget friendly, with cheap and slightly uninspired packaging with a magical little product inside and I’m twice as excited. Maybe thrice.
Max Factor are great and one of those slightly underrated brands jostling for attention in Boots. At this stage, you probably know their blushes are deadly (both powder and cream), their mascaras are some of my favourites and they also seem to be one of the few brands that offer decently pale options in their bases. Anyway, point is they know their way around a great product, just they can get a little lost standing next to the sexier makeup stands. But behold the sexiness lads. Hidden within these relatively plain tubes are lipsticks that are gorgeous and begging to be worn. Don’t be turned off by the fact these are billed at matte, you’re going to love them.
I’m not great with mattes but I do dig a velvety variety. These are infused with butters and oils (like all the great food stuffs) so I figured we’d get on like a house on fire and I was right. Each shade is consistently great, super soft and pigmented and glides across the lips, giving serious colour. They feel lightweight on and manage to avoid most of that uncomfortable ‘I’ve been out on the bender of all benders and need 2 litres of water and a breakfast roll in the next 5 minutes or I’ll pass out’ lip look that drives me bananas with the worst mattes. The soft, satin finish means these are about as flattering as you can hope for a matte to be and the shade selection is spot on, with a nice mix of pretty lighter hues and sex bomb shades.
As these are of the super soft satin end of things, it means the longevity isn’t going to rival the most tried and true mattes, but I forgive them that fault in a heartbeat because everything else about them is great. For under a tenner each, I think they’re a fabulous little buy and you’d be mad to not at least swatch the arm off yourself and at least see the shades and finish up close.
If you feel the urge to splurge, these are available on Max Factor stands for €10.99 or Feel Unique have them for €9.59 each here
