Who knows about your blog?

Who knows about your blog?

Blogging is an amazing past time and a pleasure to either create or just to browse as a reader. But I have noticed there’s a distinct divide in blogging between people who are very vocal about being  a blogger and those who prefer to keep things a little quieter. Now...

Yowza. There’s something very exciting when you try out a really beautiful product from a luxury brand and this little number, YSL’s Babydoll Kiss & Blush, is one such beauty. As soon as I opened the packaging, I loved the look and feel of it. Now I need to get...

Body Shop Colour Crush Lipsticks for Spring

Spring brings about some of the most fun and pretty products of the year and I’ve been lucky enough to try out a whole host of them, including today’s collection. I’d heard about  The Body Shop lippies a few times, often about how their Colour Crush lippie in shade 105...

Hyped Products that you just don’t like? Share yours!

I’ve bought a lot of makeup over the years and that means I’ve succumbed to the mystical powers of product hype more times than I care to mention. Sometimes, the hype is warranted but other times, I’m left a bit puzzled and wonder if I’m being a fussy so...

NEW! Ask the Experts Weekly Posts – Come Meet the Girls!

I always have tons of beauty questions I want  to ask my fellow beauty bloggers. From their favourite mascaras, powders, foundations, techniques for application, good dupes, top products, skincare advice, blogging tips and all other matters of randomness – I want to know it all. So I thought that if...

Afternoon Tea

Doesn’t this look good enough to eat? I’m trying to stay off the sweeties so maybe that’s why I’m giving this duo a double take, but you can’t deny the cuteness of this pair from Bomb Cosmetics. I’d spotted various cuteness from the brand dotted around many a chemist in...

blogging fatigue

The year is nearly at an end and for most bloggers, that means we’ve been thinking up ideas, taking photos and writing our little hearts out for 12 months. And the consensus seems to be, everyone is exhausted. I’ve seen many a tweet by a beauty blogger over the past week saying how wrecked and uninspired they feel and that they’ve lost their motivation to blog. Well girls, honestly, it’s been month after month of giving it your all to make your blog what you want it to be and at some stage, it’s only natural to feel a bit spent.

I’ve been blogging 2 years next month and if there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s that I tend to be more active with blogging during the good months and then as the colder months roll in I find things get a little bit harder. Suddenly it’s getting dark at 4 and taking photos becomes a nightmare. Posts start to back up a little. You get a cold or you’re busy concentrating on Christmas and staying cosy and overall, you start to feel a bit knackered. At the moment, I’m great at making lists of ideas for posts, but then I start to get lazy. I’m definitely feeling it, but I know from experience I felt it this time last year as well and the best thing I ever did was take a proper 2 week holiday at Christmas and not worry in the slightest if other people were blogging and if my stats were dwindling with days of no activity on the blog.

And guess what? When I felt rested and good and ready to blog after a lovely Christmas and New Year, everything picked up as normal within a few days and I found I was really looking forward to blogging again.

Yes, blogging is a hobby, but it’s quite a big one and one that demands a lot of creativity, time and effort and like anything else, sometimes you need to turn your back on it for a little while to miss it. So don’t start feeling awful if you’re staring at a blank post because it’s pretty safe to say, the rest are probably doing the exact same.

So girls are you finding you’re suffering from bloggers fatigue at the moment and are you planning a well deserved break over Christmas?

Hi MuM, can totally identify with the making lists, but not doing any of it feeling :-) . I think our bodies were made to conserve energy over winter, so enjoy your full break over Xmas, and come back rejuventated. I admire the work all bloggers put in :-)

Never thought of it like that, good point!!

I hear you! Event though pinkelephantbloggin is a 2 people operation I have to say it is exhausting! It’s a bit like working 2 jobs everyday – I know blogging is technically not a job but it’s very demanding. The great thing for me is that if I am feeling low or want to take a break Becky will take over the blogging. I honestly don’t know how you single bloggers do it! The Christmas break sounds like an amazing idea to recharge your creative batteries :)

Hi Alex, sounds great to have each other to rely on! I think a break now and again really helps recharge the batteries so I’ll definitely be enjoying mine over Christmas!

  • Not_Just_Inside

YES YES a million times yes…I could quite happily knock blogging on the head right now. I am doing the odd post here and there, but my heart is not in it anymore.

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

A Christmas break will really help don’t worry! In Jan you’ll be dying to blog again!

  • Aisling

Completely agree, finding it so disheartening because I can never catch light to take photos, and I don’t like posting crappy photos for the sake of simply posting something. I found myself nodding along to this post. Also find it really hard to fit in time for blogging with work, hectic weekends and general life busy-ness. Hopefully i will catch up over the Christmas break :) x

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Sometimes you’re too busy doing other stuff, especially with Christmas which is always a crazy time of year and I totally agree the lack of light has driven me mad and made me take 5 times as long on photos and yet I’m never happy!

  • Jenny G

There is too much going on in my head at the moment – there’s so much I want to write about and photograph and discuss and it’s all whizzing round inside my head like crazy – but it’s finding the time to do it all and when if I do get the time the words have gone – how irritating! Then there is the issue of the million things that need attending to at this time of year so if I do sit down to do it I’m thinking of all the other jobs I should be doing! Sorry I’ve ended up ranting and I should be blogging! :) x

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Sometimes a rant is needed!! I think everyone is in the same boat at the moment which hopefully helps a little!

  • trona

I’m going to be forced into a break from my blog very soon (due my baby) so I really dont know when I’ll find the time or energy to blog. I also dont really want to turn my blog into a ‘mummy’ blog, I’ll probably do the odd post here and there but I dont really see my blog as being personal. Ah I’m in a bit of a quandary as to what to do, tbh. And as you and others have said lighting is terrible at this time of year, I love to be able to see the product clearly and also, importantly, truly.

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

I’m three months gone now and have no intentions of making my blog a baby blog either, it’s makeup all the way! But yeah you’ll need a bit of time off so don’t worry about it, take what you need!!

  • http://glittersmitter5.blogspot.com/ Nida Moughal

Oh so true we all feel that wayy.. well I am very happy to announce that I have planned 15 days spiritual holiday for myslef so I will be flying to Saudia in Januray =)

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

      That sounds lovely!!

  • Nurse Fancy Pants

Thank you so much for writing this post! This is exactly how I feel; I’ve a full list of post ideas but I just can’t seem to get the motivation together which is so frustrating :( so glad to know I’m not alone.x

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Ah glad to hear, I think you feel a lot better when you realise so many other people are a bit tired and uninspired!!

  • Lilliwhiterose

So glad you wrote this post, I was trying to figure out what I would do over Christmas because I know I won’t have the time or the inclination to blog. I have been feeling really tired lately and just need a break so I’m definitely going to take a leaf out of your book and not worry about dwindling stats and just come back refreshed and ready to go after Christmas . Thank you xx

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Honestly it makes zero difference in the long run!!

  • bridget douglas

Great post! I’m finding it hard to blog the last few weeks so I’m trying to make my posts better, I think quality is better than quantity when it comes to posts. I’ll definitely take some time off at Christmas so I’ll be rested and hopefully will have lots of ideas for new posts.

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Totally agree quality over quantity and I’ll definitely feel rested too after a well deserved break!

  • Kate Spitz

I have only been blogging for 6 months so fatigue hasn’t set in yet. Fortunately, scheduled posts have been amazing because I don’t have time to blog during the week. I can write up a week or 2 worth of posts and have them go out even when my day is hectic.

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

That’s brilliant and when I’m feeling really energetic with the blogging I do the same!!

  • http://youtube.com/user/rikkipoynter Rikki Poynter

I don’t overwork myself on my blog or my YouTube for any reason. I don’t force myself to post. If I don’t want to post something, I won’t. Blogging is supposed to be fun and not something like a chore, so I don’t really need breaks so often.

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Don’t get me wrong I blog because I want to, but I can still get a bit tired and wrecked from it the odd time because I’m quite meticulous about it and put a lot of thought and time into it

  • http://glittermamawishes.com/ Yaz

Im finding it easier to blog weirdly enough I suppose because the the weather is cold so me and the kids are indoors more. You have every right to feel fatigued though what with growing a little person ;)

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

I can only imagine how I’ll be a few months down the road! Well delighted someone is finding winter a better blogging time:)

  • http://polishedandprimed.com/ Stephanie Barry

I love when you do posts like this :) . When you blog about blogging! I always find what you’re saying so relatable and it makes me love your blog even more.

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Aww thanks Steph that really means a lot!

  • MakeupOverMind

Definitely finding it tricky since I moved, so I’ll probably try and catch up on some posts over Christmas! Certainly feeling it at the moment though! Make sure you have an extra rest for yourself too mrs! ;)

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Ohh nice hope the new place is lovely!

  • kelly @boobesque

I gave up blogging after I moved, my break and then my fatigue became a hibernation instead! I sometimes miss it but then the thought of getting back into it makes me feel a bit tired haha!

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Ah well you never know Kelly you may turn around one day and start up again!

  • Beauty Angel

I’ve only been blogging 6 months but it is hard to constantly keep going when you’ve so many outside pressures but I don’t want people to think I’ve forgotten it either. I’m going to take a break at Christmas but I am nervous of leaving my blog unattended, it’s like my baby!

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

I know it becomes such a personal thing you don’t want to leave it to be forgotten but honestly most people won’t be reading blogs over Christmas let alone writing posts so don’t worry about it!

  • Beauty Bird

Great post! This time of year is definitely harder, there’s so much more to do in general at Christmas I find! Plus the dreaded cold – ugh. I had a fiancé free night tonight, which I normally spend blogging, but I have a cold and feel dreadful, so it wasn’t very productive!! xx

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Being sick is just a downer I have a rotten cough and cold too and it just zaps your energy, fiance and mam are both mammying me and I can’t resist it!

  • http://www.victoriabeautyy.blogspot.co.uk/ Victoria

You got it spot on in this post! I struggle to find inspiration at this time of year, and when you start out blogging it can be really hard to not get discouraged. When you put all your effort into a post and it doesn’t get much feed back or when you loose followers its hard to find the motivation to carry on sometimes. I have a book FULL of post ideas, whenever i’m feeling really inspired I write down all the ideas I have and go back to them when i’m uninspired.

    http://www.victoriabeautyy.blogspot.co.uk

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

I do this too it’s great when you get a flurry of ideas and you have them there ready for the week’s when you don’t know what to write about!

  • Sunlight Beauty

great post, sometimes I get bloggers fatigue but I find if I go through my makeup collection, I start to get ideas and inspiration to blog

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

      Great idea!!

  • http://bellemortebeauty.blogspot.ie/ Belle Morte Beauty

Oh god, I’m so glad I’m not the only one! Been on a unforeseen hiatus the past week or so – have just been so busy with “real life” and getting ready for Christmas – hoping to be back to all systems a go-go again tomorrow though. Great post as always x

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Thanks missus sorry I need to send you some products just been swamped with Christmas! It’ll prob be new year now!
