Blogging is an amazing past time and a pleasure to either create or just to browse as a reader. But I have noticed there’s a distinct divide in blogging between people who are very vocal about being  a blogger and those who prefer to keep things a little quieter. Now...

Hyped Products that you just don’t like? Share yours!

I’ve bought a lot of makeup over the years and that means I’ve succumbed to the mystical powers of product hype more times than I care to mention. Sometimes, the hype is warranted but other times, I’m left a bit puzzled and wonder if I’m being a fussy so...

Afternoon Tea

Doesn’t this look good enough to eat? I’m trying to stay off the sweeties so maybe that’s why I’m giving this duo a double take, but you can’t deny the cuteness of this pair from Bomb Cosmetics. I’d spotted various cuteness from the brand dotted around many a chemist in...

christmas shopping

I love Christmas. There I said it. Now I completely agree it starts at least a month and a half too early but now that December is has arrived I’ve kinda lost the run of myself and festive cheer is in full swing. So with that brings around the all important present list and that’s where I kind of come into my own. I officially love buying goodies for people come Christmas.

I’ve definitely picked up my mam’s habit of making endless lists, especially around this time, and every year I always have a well worn notebook with pages of secretive scrawls of ideas for people and all important sums for what funds I have and how much I’ll have to spend in the run up to Christmas. The lists are re-written, presents are ticked off the list or changed altogether and I get a huge amount of enjoyment pouring over it like it’s a very important document. I also really enjoy spending evenings looking up cute ideas for people I love and thinking about how much they’ll enjoy something on Christmas morning. It’s all part of the fun for me and I definitely get a huge buzz out of Christmas shopping whether it’s online or running around the city.

But present shopping is stressful too so I can understand in a way why a lot of people ignore it and then run out and get everything in one day. I know one of my worst habits is adding extra bits onto people’s presents because I can’t leave well alone and I always overspend because I genuinely love buying gifts for people I love and I tend to go over the top. And don’t start me on the crowds in town come December. I feel too warm, claustrophobic and pushed around when things get too hectic close to Christmas, hence me trying to get everything finished ASAP and relying on online shopping a lot! Then there’s the biggest factor for most people including ourselves, money. We’ve been much more careful about buying presents this year, everything is smaller but hopefully equally lovely as the last thing we’re willing to do is bankrupt ourselves for January to get through December! But honestly I turn white when I see a Furby costs nearly €60 and perfume sets are topping €100.

So yes Christmas time zaps your funds and can be stressful, but it can also be huge fun and a lovely time of year to spread the love.

So how about you, do you love Christmas shopping or is it one more hassle you’d happily ignore and do you feel pressure when you add up how much you have to spend?

Due to the stress and cost of last year, I decided never again. I started shopping early this year and every week I got one or two gifts. Now all have to buy is my neice’s gift and a couple of just encase bottles of wine/boxes of chocolates. Can I also say everything is wrapped so I can’t change my mind or start adding/removing gifts. Is that sad?

Ah fair play you’re more organised than I am! I definitely think spacing out buying the presents earlier in the year takes off some of the pressure!

I love shopping for presents now that I’ve gotten older. My sisters didn’t really have much on their lists this year so I’m going out today to pick out a bunch of little bits to make up for them! Shopping for the other half is a bit more difficult though :P

I agree more thought goes into my other halves present because you have to think more outside the box but I love looking up ideas for him!

Oh my god I ADORE the shopping. I have a notebook for lists and pressie ideas all sectioned off into definites, maybes, stocking fillers, things to post, spare presents just in case, online things…….we need to go shopping together!!

  • Avril Joanne

I like Christmas shopping, I just love shopping in general! I’m like you, lots of lists :)

    • http://www.makeupmonster.ie/ Makeup Monster

Haha yeah me too, any excuse to shop!

  • Pink Elephant Blog

I make lists too, otherwise I forget who I have already bought for! I’m a disaster without lists! I like shopping for Christmas presents as such but I absolutely HATE the the panic and mayhem in shopping centres on December weekends. There’s a horrible nervous atmosphere in shops sometimes. I usually shop during the week when I can, I can take my time then and I enjoy myself a lot more :)

Yeah me too, during the week is much easier, Saturdays and Sundays turn into a nightmare in December!

I do some of my Christmas shopping throughout the year as I find things people may like. The rest of my Christmas shopping is usually done online while the hubs drives us home after Thanksgiving!

I hate Christmas shopping. I hate coming up with ideas for gifts, I hate being in overcrowded streets and shops, I hate wrapping gifts,… Feel free to call me The Grinc 2.0 but I’d be totally fine with a present-free Christmas!

Haha I admire your honesty!! And in fairness presents aren’t the best thing about Christmas!

  • Kathleen – Squidgy Moments

I love Christmas shopping. I feel I can’t get Christmassy this year but I am skipping the shopping (no money after travels). The whole experience normally excites me though, writing the list, buying the presents, wrapping them etc :) love it! xx
