I fell in love with this pretty piece as soon as I laid eyes on it. Now in fairness, jewellery with hidden lip glosses inside can have a bit of a whack of Claire’s Accessories and ten year old girls about it (although I still like a mooch in Claire’s) but the new Andrea Garland collection of jewellery is grown up, glam and has the right dose of kitsch to make a girl like me happy.
Firstly, the jewellery itself is lovely, it feels heavy, of good quality and has a nice amount of detail. It also has a decently long chain which makes me happy as I hate when chains for larger jewellery are too short. When you pry the delicate gold handbag open, you’re met with a slab of clear balm snugly housed inside. Ok I may have preferred a coloured balm but I’m still a happy camper.
I think people often view these type of products as gimmicky but the truth is, you can very easily melt a small amount of your favourite lippie in the microwave, pour it into the balm space within this locket and let it dry, giving you your favourite shade close to your heart all day. So in that sense, this can easily be reused (and having tried this with lipsticks before I can tell you it’s surprisingly easy to melt and set) so I actually quite love this piece.
If a handbag isn’t quite your thing, there’s a whole host of gorgeous pieces in the Andrea Garland collection, including the beautiful hare ring and owl brooch which I have a special soft spot for. The collection has a mix of lip balms, muscle rubs and body balms inside which I think is a lovely idea.
Now the quality of the jewellery means you’re not going to get this for spare change, the handbag necklace is in fact €45 which is admittingly steep, but you’re getting a lovely piece so it’s worth considering for your letter to Santa. Also, it’s on sale for €36 on ASOS at the moment so you have a chance to get it a little cheaper!
If you’re tickled by this collection, the lot are available on ASOS now!
So girls, loving this, hating this?
