White liners for the waterline are a clever little invention but I’ve had a very mixed view of them over the years, having encountered many which were blindingly obvious and glaringly white. So I thought I’d take two of the most popular liners on the market today and pitch them against each other to show you lovely gals what you’re getting into if you buy one!
First up, NYX Milk which has been much lauded in beauty circles. This is a big ol’ thick white pencil that gives you plenty of bang for your buck at €5.75, in fact you’d easily get a full year out of it I’d say, so it’s a prudent purchase. This is as white as white can be when swatched and the larger size means you have to have more precision when you apply it or you risk getting white all over your lower lashes. This definitely makes the eye area look whiter, but the very harsh white shade means it’s very obvious in daylight that you’re wearing it. At night time, this has a much more appealing effect but to be honest, I kinda hated this. I want the wide awake look, but I want it as subtly as possible and this just doesn’t do it for me. It would be fantastic for night’s out or photoshoots but for every day wear, it’s a thumbs down from me.
On the other hand, Rimmel’s waterproof liner in Nude was a real surprise. As soon as I saw pictures of it online, I was intrigued by it’s shade which looks more like your own skin. In fact, compared to Milk, the two couldn’t be further apart colour wise. Rimmel’s offering is buttery soft to use, which means you’ll probably get through it a lot quicker than NYX, but that wouldn’t bother me as long as it performs. And it definitely does. This nude shade applies very easily and covers all traces of redness on the waterline, leaving a very neutral skin like colour that’s natural while still remaining noticeable. I had given up on these types of liners, thinking they were a bit of a gimmick but Rimmel’s version has totally changed my mind. I’d happily wear this every day and especially at night time to really make my eyes look wide awake. At €5.49, it’s a total bargain and I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to any girls who find their eyes looking a little tired or for those with small eyes who want to make them appear bigger.
NYX are available from Beautyemporium.ie and Rimmel are available from stands nationwide.
So girls, what are your thoughts on white liners and have you tried either of these? Share your thoughts!
