Ah Lush, you devils. Lulling me in with your sweetly scented goodies and then whacking me over the head with your new sparkly, fun cosmetics range.
The packaging alone is well worth a look, all cute little jars with old fashioned paper labels tied on. The see through bottles allow the colours of the products to shine and delight, and you’re never quite sure what a product is until you check the label.
Now, Lush are not the cheapest brand, so each product will set you back about €15, a price that may alienate some people. However, Lush are cruelty free and their products are made with care and a good dose of fun and I’ve loved trying out these samples which is a good sign.
Firstly, the lippie. This fantastic vibrant pink knocked my socks off and is definitely for when you’re feeling daring. The colour on my lips doesn’t translate properly in the photo, this is a WOW colour, a dark vibrant pink almost tinged with purple.
One teeny weeny coat gave amazing coverage and it feels soft and yet long lasting. This colour alone must be swatched ladies, I can only imagine how lovely the rest of the lippie range is!
Next, eyes. I was sent the cream eyeshadow in sophisticated which is a tawny pink shade, perfect for daytime.
I’m not mad on these types of shadows but this looked lovely on and is a universally flattering shade. Again, a little goes a long way.
The amazing gold glitter eyeliner ‘fantasy’ is pretty enough to just look at in the bottle but also gives a beautiful bold gold line on the lids. The liner brush in the bottle is easy to use and once the liner sets, it’s smudge proof so you’re ready to go!
I also tried their Eyes Right mascara (which you can see above) which states it only has one preservative compared to the usual 5 contained in mascaras and therefore could be a good bet for sensitive eyes. It gives a natural look that wouldn’t have enough oomph for me personally and the short length of the wand makes it a little awkward to use.
Now the skin tints. Lush say these can be used mixed in with moisturiser or foundation and the light one can also be used under the eyes. The light shade, called ‘feeling younger’ is a cream coloured highlighter shot through with an irredescant pink. This looks a bit robotic applied all over the face but if you layer your normal base on top you’re just left with a subtle sheen. I didn’t find this much use under the eyes but it is a gorgeous liquid highlighter. ‘Charisma’ is a bronze shade and would rock on darker skin tones as a highlighter but is a bit defunct on my very pale skin. ‘Tis beautiful to look at though!
Finally, my absolute favourite, the setting powder. This faintly pink powder is brightening, baby soft on the skin and sets to a beautiful matte finish. It lasts really well throughout the day and seriously makes your makeup and skin look more polished. I’ve been using this loads since I got it and plan to happily polish off the jar and repurchase. If you’re browsing these cosmetics in the shops soon, definitely try a sample of this instore to see what I’m fussing about:)
Overall, while this range is a little pricy, the products have been worth the wait. They’re beautiful, vibrant and easy to use. They’re out tomorrow, 21st July ladies and you’d be crazy not to swatch these babies like crazy in store and see what I’m taking about. I for one think they’re the business and can’t wait to get my mitts on the rest of the range!
So, will Lush be making an appearance in your makeup bag? Let me know!
