Ah that magical time has arrived where my combination skin slips from the mostly dry category into greasy mode with ease. Yes the unsightly flakiness begins to disappear, but now I have the endless waves of shininess to contend with. Luckily I have my secret weapons.
Firstly, the BEST primer ever.
Now I’ve mentioned it before on the blog but it needs another post dedicated to it because it’s so good. This little primer is the one I always turn back to because it’s simply the best for all round perfecting qualities when it comes to my skin. It’s Peter Thomas Roth Max Anti-shine Gel.
Yes it’s a big ol’ name for a small bottle of goodness. Yes it’s nearly €30. But it’s also hands-down the best primer I’ve ever tried. I bought it from Beauty Bay which are a fab site.
I’d been neglecting it a little over the winter months as I tried out various other brands but when I decided one day recently to try it again, I realised I’d forgotten just how amazing it was. This lumpy gel, when rubbed onto the face, smoothes skin, fuzzes over imperfections and pores, mattifies and creates the perfect base for makeup.
The recent onslaught of sweat-inducing weather has been the perfect test and it passed with flying colours. I spent a day trudging around town in the heat, I did an enormous walk that had sweat literally dripping off me. I did not have to retouch my makeup. My makeup looked pretty much as perfect as it had that morning. It is a miracle worker folks even if you just wear it on it’s own and I’d highly recommend it for both girls and guys alike.
Secondly, there’s a fab new moisturiser I’ve been using, Pai Geranium & Thistle cream which is aimed at combination skin. This little bottle of vegan organic delight comes in a lovely glass bottle and is softly scented. This goes on smoothly and dries to a matt finish very quickly.
The Geranium in this moisturiser has a cooling and calming effect while the thistle contains Omega 6 which Pai says will reduce the appearance of large pores. This is a really nice night time addition for those hot and sticky nights when you have to ditch the heavy weight moisturisers that you’ve been slathering on your face all winter. Love!
Finally, I really can’t beat E.L.F.’s HD powder for it’s ability to improve the look of skin, mattify and keep skin shine free. I’ve reviewed it in more detail here but it’s safe to say it’s my absolute favourite powder and all for under a tenner!
So what are you best grease fighting products? Let me know!
